Kisumu’s Bandari are Division Two winners

First rising Bandani Football Club are the Football Kenya Federation (FKF) National Division II Central Zone League Champions.

The Kisumu Airport based side beat home-team Kamungei FC 5-4 on post match penalties after settling to a barren draw at Kericho Green Stadium on Saturday.

On their way to the finals, the eventual winners also needed post match penalties to stopped Nyamira-based Hema Moja 5-3 after they had shared spoils 1-1 during normal time.

“We are overwhelmed with happiness. It’s a great achievement and we thank God for the win,”  Bandani FC assistant team manager Kevin Jamal told People Sports.He added: “The games were very tough more so playing against very technical and fast sides on both matches.

We had to change tact and employ our strongest part, the goalkeeper. This is where the matches were won.”

Winning the league title means that Bandani have been promoted to FKF National Division I League next season and Jamal said they will have to cut shot their celebrations as they swiftly embark on preparing for task ahead in Division I League.

“The win falls well in the team’s strategic plan of joining Division one by 2020.

We will not have time to celebrate but embark on preparations for our new challenges,” said Jamal, adding that being a community club from Kisumu West, their mission is to maintain the momentum on their way to the top.
