By , January 21, 2020

Kisumu acting Speaker Elisha Oraro has officialy resigned as Kisumu North ward Member of County Assembly (MCA) ahead of Friday election to replace Onyango Oloo who was impeached last year.

Oraro said he took the bold decision to allow him contest for the seat.

Laywer Ken Omondi has also declared interest in the position.

The law requires an MCA, who intends to vie for the position of the speaker, to formally resign as a warde representative.

The MCAs impeached Oloo on September 19, citing various grounds, including incompetence, corruption and failure to conduct the House proceedings in a free, fair, and impartial manner.

He unsuccessfully challenged the ouster in court, which upheld the County Assembly’s verdict on his impeachment.

Labour court’s Justice Nduma Nderi said the impeachment was done in accordance with law.
