Kisumu Muslim leaders warn Kenyans against being dragged into political feuds
By Emmanuel Rono, March 20, 2026Muslim leaders in Kisumu have issued a powerful call for national stability and social harmony.
Speaking in Kisumu on Friday, March 20, 2026, Ratib Hamed, Member of County Assembly (MCA) Nyalenda A ward, emphasised that peace is a prerequisite for progress, urging the faithful to avoid being swayed by divisive political rhetoric.
“Wanasiasa ambao wanapandikiza chuki na mchecheo dhidi ya wenzao wakome. Tunataka amani. Tunaelewa kuwa mambo yanayotokea kwenye siasa ndiyo yanayochochea migogoro kati yetu,” Hamed said.
Loosely translated, “Politicians who sow hatred and provoke their opponents should stop. We want peace. We understand that political tensions are what fuel conflicts among us,” Hamed said.

Hamed warned citizens that politicians often reconcile privately after inciting public conflict, making it vital for the community to ignore inflammatory language.
“Hao wanasiasa baadaye huwa wanakutana na kuongea wao kwa wao, ilhali nyinyi mmekuwa kwenye shida mnapigana wenyewe kwa wenyewe. Kwa hivyo, ninataka kuwasihi: kuna mambo ambayo yanatoka kwa wanasiasa, msiwatilie maanani,” Hamed said.
Loosely translated, “Those politicians later meet and talk among themselves, while you are left in trouble, fighting among yourselves. Therefore, I want to advise you: some things come from politicians, so do not pay them much attention,” Hamed said.
President Ruto’s Message
Ruto joined Muslims in marking the conclusion of the sacred month of Ramadan, a period dedicated to sacrifice, prayer, reflection, and charity. On his part, the Head of State called on Kenyans to embrace the values of faith, unity, and gratitude, which the festival embodies.

“We join the Muslim community in celebrating Eid al-Fitr following the sacred month of Ramadan, a time of sacrifice, devotion, prayer, charity, and reflection. May all acts of worship be accepted, hearts renewed and strengthened, and the spirit of faith continue to guide our nation and us,” Ruto said.
He further urged the importance of remembering the less fortunate and sharing kindness so all may partake in Eid blessings.
“Eid is a celebration of these virtues: faith, unity, and gratitude. As we rejoice, let us remember the less fortunate and share kindness so all may partake in its blessings. May this occasion bring peace to our hearts, harmony to our communities, and renewed hope for our nation. Eid Mubarak,” Ruto added.
