Kisumu MCAs impeach Finance executive Nerry Achar

By , August 14, 2019

Kisumu MCAs yesterday impeached embattled Finance executive Nerry Achar  and asked his boss Governor Anyang’ Nyong’o to sack him immediately.

The  impeachment motion had been presented by the Select committee chairman Steve Owiti, with 37 members voting for his removal and three against it. He was impeached amid the county’s 2019/20 budget stalemate.

The Assembly had formed a 16-member team to probe Achar over claims of gross misconduct, incompetence, abuse of office and violation of the relevant laws in discharging his duties.

Take up matter

The committee found him culpable of the allegations, and said he was unfit to hold any public office in the county,  and that the Assembly had ceased to recognise or transact any business with him.

It also recommended that the Directorate of Criminal Investigations, and Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission take up the matter on grounds that it borders on criminality and economic crimes.

Speaker Onyango Oloo has since written to Nyong’o asking him to dismiss Achar.
