Nakuru Governor Lee Kinyanjui has accused the Jubilee administration of mismanaging the economy and called for “honest conversations” to forestall a looming financial crisis. 

Kinyanjui blamed erratic government policies and decisions, especially by the Treasury, for the state of the economy, which he said was putting the country at a crossroads.

Addressing the press at his office, Kinyanjui faulted the government for awarding infrastructure contracts to foreigners, terming it a conspiracy to get local contractors out of business. 

“Decisions have been made by people who do not have the interest of the nation at heart thus putting lives of many Kenyans at risk,” he said, citing current wave of job losses and closure of businesses. 

“All key infrastructure contracts are in the hands of foreigners. When will Kenyans enjoy the benefits of their economy? Have we seen a reciprocation in their countries,?” he asked.  

He cited dam, railway and road network projects awarded to Chinese contractors.

Speaking only two days after Gatundu South MP Moses Kuria claimed Parliament had colluded with Executive to cook financial books and subject Kenyans to expensive loans, Kinyanjui said citizens have been fooled for far too long.

He called upon President Kenyatta to deliberately change his government’s approach to awarding of development projects under his legacy-defining Big Four agenda.
