Kindiki reveals reason for hosting Kitui grassroots leaders ahead of Mashujaa Day
Deputy President Kithure Kindiki has revealed the reason for meeting the grassroots leaders from Kitui County at his Irunduni, Tharaka Nithi County, on Wednesday, October 1, 2025.
Speaking on Wednesday, October 1, 2025, Kindiki stressed that he opted to extend the invitation to the delegation of Ukambani leaders as his immediate neighbours.
Preparations for Mashujaa Day
He stated that the immediate host of the annual Mashujaa Day celebrations, the residents, will play a crucial role in making the event successful.
“I have summoned people here from various parts of the country, but I chose to begin with the neighbours, since when we welcome more visitors, we need neighbours to help you. It is why I considered the people of Ukambani to be here and help with the plans,” he stated.
The former assured that the upcoming Mashujaa Day, scheduled to be hosted at the Ithookwe Stadium, would come in handy in boosting the region’s development.

“You know the whole of Kitui had no quality stadium. Now, because of Mashujaa, we have the stadium of international quality nearing completion. I will be there next week to ensure the stadium will be ready. It is a big venue of international standards,” he stated.
Update on Ithookwe Stadium
His remarks come as the government provided an update on the level of preparedness for the function to go down in three weeks’ time, on October 20, 2025.
In a statement on Friday, 1 August 2025, on his official X account, Interior CS Kipchumba Murkomen acknowledged President William Ruto’s commitment to building modern stadiums across the country.
Murkomen, while giving an update on the construction progress, also added that the 10,000-seater facility was progressing well.
“In line with President William Ruto’s BETA commitment to build modern stadiums in the regions, the construction of a 10,000-capacity stadium in Kitui County is progressing well. We shall ensure that the facility, which will host this year’s Mashujaa Day celebrations, is safe and secure for users,” Murkomen said.
