Kindiki: Raila Odinga’s body viewing to continue at Nyayo Stadium
By Mabonga Makhanu, October 16, 2025Deputy President Kithure Kindiki has announced that the viewing of the former Prime Minister’s body will continue at Nyayo Stadium.
During his daily update on Thursday, October 16, 2025, Kindiki, who also serves as the chair of the State Funeral Committee for Raila Odinga, stated that it was the government’s desire for the viewing at Kasarani Stadium to continue until all Kenyans who were in doubt of the demise of the lifelong opposition leader were satisfied and convinced. However, it had to be cut short.

He further explained that after the State Funeral, where he confirmed that several Heads of State from neighbouring countries are expected to attend, the public will once again have an opportunity to view the body of Raila Odinga after the official speeches.
“There will be a public viewing of the remains of the late Prime Minister after the state event, and therefore those who still wish to continue mourning our departed leader have no cause to worry, there will be another opportunity,” Kindiki stated.
Kindiki assured mourners wishing to view the body that the public viewing at Nyayo Stadium will stretch from 12:00 noon for as long as possible to ensure that as many Kenyans as possible have the opportunity to pay their last respects.
“It will stretch from 12 o’clock to as far as possible,” he added.
Kasarani viewing
This comes after the Kasarani viewing, which saw President William Ruto lead the nation in paying respects to the late Raila Odinga. He was followed by the widow, Ida Odinga, and the Odinga family.

Raila Odinga’s body was dressed in a suit, with his signature cap placed on the coffin and an ODM scarf draped across his shoulders. His coffin bore the Coat of Arms inside, symbolising the state honours he was accorded as promised by President William Ruto.

The body was later moved from the VIP lounge to an open area for Kenyans to view under tight security, manned by GSU and military officers.
The late former Prime Minister is set to be buried where his parents were buried in Kang’o ka Jaramogi, Bondo, in a private funeral attended only by a select few.
