Kindiki orders probe into recent killings in Marsabit
Interior and Nation Administration Cabinet Secretary (CS) Kithure Kindiki has ordered immediate probe into recent killings in Marsabit County.
Speaking when he visited the area on Wednesday, May 3, the CS said several current and former political leaders in the county are under investigation.
“Marsabit County is one of the most diverse counties in the country. The Government will not entertain anyone using political, religious or ethnic persuasionsl to incite animosity.
“Met the County Security and Intelligence team in Marsabit Town and instructed the officers to investigate, apprehend and prosecute all criminals behind the recent killings.
Several current and former political leaders in Marsabit County, as well as some religious and community leaders are under investigation,” he said.
Kindiki on peace structures
The CS further stated that peace building structures will be reactivated to encourage the people of Marsabit County to live in harmony.
“All communities and religions must be brought on board, and the process spearheaded by the County Security team,” stated.
At the same time, Kindiki ordered disarmament and restricted access to Marsabit Forest which he said has been used as hiding ground for bandits.
“All illegal guns in the hands of civilians must be recovered. The Government will also seal off and limit access to Marsabit forest that armed criminals and livestock rustlers have been using as a hideout.
“Such criminals will be flushed out of the forest by the multisectoral security team,” he added.
