Kindiki calls for speedy implementation of IBEC resolutions

Deputy President Kithure Kindiki has criticised various government institutions over the slow implementation of decisions made during the meetings of the Intergovernmental Budget and Economic Council (IBEC).

Speaking during the 29th Ordinary Session of the Intergovernmental Budget and Economic Council (IBEC), Karen, Nairobi City County, on Friday, February 13, 2023, Kindiki said while some progress had been recorded, much effort was needed to meet the agreed deadlines.

“We have seen some progress in implementing IBEC decisions, but it is not enough; we must do better. This is a high-level meeting bringing together all levels of government, and there is no reason for institutions to delay implementation,” Kindiki stated.

Kithure noted that the Intergovernmental Budget and Economic Council (IBEC) meetings are conducted to enhance cooperation between the two levels of government, particularly on budget allocation, revenue sharing, and development planning, among other key areas of concern.

Need to deepen collaboration between the county and national governments

The 29th Ordinary Session of the Intergovernmental Budget and Economic Council (IBEC) in Nairobi brought together national and county leaders for high-level deliberations on fiscal coordination and budgetary planning.

 The Intergovernmental Budget and Economic Council (IBEC) has conducted the Ordinary Session at Deputy President Kithure Kindiki’s official residence in Karen, unveiling a series of measures to deepen intergovernmental cooperation, enhance fiscal accountability, and improve public service delivery.

The meeting, chaired by the second-in-command, reaffirmed the government’s commitment to devolution as the foundation for Kenya’s socioeconomic transformation. 

Leaders emphasised the importance of closer collaboration between national and county governments in addressing pressing fiscal, administrative, and development issueIn his statement, Prof. Kindiki reaffirmed the commitment to strengthening cooperation between the two levels of government, emphasising the importance of effective devolution in ensuring equitable development throughout the country.
