Kindiki backs Ruto’s 2027 bid, urges opposition to shun disruptive politics

Deputy President Kithure Kindiki has rallied Kenyans to support President William Ruto’s 2027 re-election bid, pointing to the Kenya Kwanza administration’s development record as justification for another term.

Speaking during an economic empowerment event in Malava, Kakamega County, on July 18, 2025, Kindiki emphasised that Kenya Kwanza has delivered on key promises, especially in sectors like housing, agriculture, healthcare, and electricity connectivity.

He highlighted the Affordable Housing Programme, which has so far constructed over 150,000 homes and created more than 250,000 jobs, as evidence of the administration’s commitment to grassroots transformation.

“We are working hard to develop the country as we prepare for the 2027 elections. The role of preparing elections belongs to IEBC. For us, it’s to work for Kenyans,” Kindiki said, reiterating the government’s focus on service delivery rather than political theatrics.

Kindiki also called on the opposition to abandon what he termed “disruptive politics” and prepare for the next general election through constructive engagement.

“Prepare for elections instead of engaging in unproductive rhetoric,” he urged, dismissing slogans like Ruto Must Go as distractions from national development.

His comments come amid growing political tensions, with some opposition leaders accusing the government of scheming to manipulate the electoral process.

Addressing the newly sworn-in Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) team led by Chairperson Erastus Edung Ethekon, Kindiki urged them to hit the ground running. He tasked the commission with overseeing pending by-elections in constituencies like Malava, Mbeere North, and Banissa, while setting the stage for the 2027 polls.

“The IEBC commissioners should now officially begin preparations for the 2027 elections,” Kindiki said, stressing that Kenya Kwanza will not seek electoral favors but expects a fair process.

Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi, who also attended the Malava event alongside President Ruto’s political advisor Farouk Kibet, echoed Kindiki’s sentiments.

Mudavadi warned MPs against making reckless claims about election rigging, insisting Kenya Kwanza is committed to winning the 2027 polls legitimately.

“We will seek a legitimate win—not stolen votes,” he declared, in response to concerns raised.

Kindiki further cautioned the opposition against attempts to discredit the IEBC prematurely, warning that the government will not allow the country to slide into chaos.

“Those looking for shortcuts to power must know this country cannot be destabilised,” he said.
