Kindiki backs ODM-UDA pact to solve Kenya’s sticky issues

Deputy President Kithure Kindiki hailed the place of the bipartisan consensus in addressing issues of national importance, which he opines would have otherwise remained unresolved.

Speaking during the joint PG meeting between ODM and Kenya Kwanza on Monday, August 18, 2025, Kindiki said the approach remains a viable route to address the important yet sticky issues and challenges like those addressed in the ten-point agenda.

Consensus building

The DP noted that recent political happenings, especially the hotly contested elections, have necessitated collaboration between the political outfits in order to tackle issues of national importance.

“For the last 33 years our country has revolved around two major political formations. We had elections whereafter the strongest party wins, but with an opposition that is equally fairly strong, and what that means is you require bipartisan consensus building to deal with issues of serious national importance and challenges,” he stated.

He further praised the work being undertaken by the recently constituted team to oversee the implementation of the ten-point agenda, as well as the NADCO report, led by former nominated senator Agnes Zani, and that led by Makau Mutua, as the coordinator of the protest victims compensation team.

Kindiki observed that without deliberate collaborative forums such as that adopted by the ruling United Democratic Alliance and its broad-based partner ODM, national issues like those highlighted in the ten-point agenda would not have been canvassed.

“No single side would have enough political latitude to be able to heavy-lift the topic being undertaken by the two,” he added.

His sentiments were reinforced by the ODM’s minority leader of the National Assembly, Junett Mohammed, who threw his weight behind engagements geared towards addressing issues pertinent to the Kenyan people.

“Bipartisan engagements are what drive the mature democracies all over the world, from which we also borrow. People come together when they have a national agenda, irrespective of the parties that they belong to. We are here today for this PG, which today discusses issues of national concern to the people. I am from ODM, and things pointed out in the ten-point agenda are things for the people of the country,” he stated.
