Two suspects involved in the murder of retired Justice Effie Owuor’s farm manager have been handed a life sentence.

In a statement shared by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) the two, Isaac Kiptoo Rono aka Malakwen and Julius Mengich Kipyegon had been accused of killing George Anyango alias Bengo at Owuor’s Muhuroni farm.

In the unfortunate incident, the suspects who were armed with machetes are said to have ambushed the manager and Owuor’s son, Paul Owuor.

They attacked Bengo using the machetes and inflicted multiple injuries on him before slitting his throat.

At the time, Paul who had accompanied Bengo to the farm fired in the air to repulse the attackers but his firearm jammed and the suspect attacked him.

“In the November 17, 2018 attack, the suspects who were armed with machetes ambushed and attacked Bengo at his boss’s farm, inflicting multiple injuries on him before slitting his throat.

“Paul Owuor, a licensed firearm holder and who had accompanied Bengo to the farm, fired in the air to repulse the attackers, but his firearm developed a stoppage and was equally attacked,” a statement by DCI reads in parts.

While appearing before Justice Helen Aburiri of the Kisumu High Court, Paul told the court that the suspects deeply cut his belly revealing his intestines.

He, however, stated that he used his shirt to hold them as he called for help. Paul was rescued by a tractor driver who rushed him to a nearby health facility.

The DCI welcomes the sentence awarded to the two murderers by Justice Helen Aburiri of the Kisumu High Court, with the hope that Bengo’s family will be comforted by the delivery of justice to their kin.

“We acknowledge the efforts of the security forces in Kisumu and Nandi counties who, led by the DCI homicide team, hunted down the suspects, before arresting and arraigning them to be dealt with according to law,” DCI added.

Further, DCI commended members of the public for being patient and calm throughout the trial period.
