Kidero delivers Uhuru’s condolence message at Dalmas Otieno’s funeral
By Mabonga Makhanu, October 2, 2025Former Nairobi Governor Evans Kidero delivered a condolence message from former President Uhuru Kenyatta during the funeral of the late former MP Dalmas Otieno.
The burial ceremony, held on Wednesday, October 2, 2025, in Migori County, brought together leaders, family members, and residents in honour of the veteran politician.
Kidero revealed that the news of the demise of Dalmas Otieno found him while in the company of the former president.

Kidero further explained that he had been entrusted by the former Head of State to convey the message. In the statement, Uhuru described the late legislator as an accomplished leader, a seasoned administrator, and a dedicated servant of the Kenyan people, whose decades of public service left a lasting mark on the country’s governance and development.
The condolence note paid tribute to Dalmas Otieno’s contributions as a legislator, cabinet minister, and community leader. It highlighted his role in shaping policies in ministries such as Planning, Labour, and Public Service and emphasised his reputation for integrity, patriotism, and dialogue-driven leadership.
“It is with profound, profound sadness that I received the news of the passing of honourable Dalmas Otieno, an accomplished leader, seasoned administrator and dedicated servant of the people of Kenya,” the note read.
Dalmas Otieno’s contribution
According to Uhuru’s message, Dalmas Otieno will be remembered not only for his service to the nation but also as a mentor and source of wisdom whose calm demeanour and vision earned him respect across political divides.
His passing, the statement added, was a loss not only to his family and the Rongo constituency he represented but also to the country at large.

“His remarkable contribution in various ministries, particularly in planning, labour and public service, reflected his deep belief in Kenya, where institutions are strong, opportunities are shared, and the dignity of every citizen is upheld.”
“Kenya has indeed lost a great son, a man who gave the best of his talents to the nation and whose legacy will remain. H in the annals of history, his passing is not only a loss to his family but also to the community and the country at large.”
After delivering the condolence message to mourners, Kidero presented the written script to the widow of the late Dalmas Otieno as the funeral service proceeded in a deeply sombre atmosphere.
