Kiambu county government will supply farmers in semi-arid areas with free seeds and subsidised fertilisers, Governor James Nyoro has said.

He urged farmers to prepare their land for planting noting that the county government has allocated enough funds for the purchase of farm input.

Nyoro said President Uhuru Kenyatta is personally monitoring development projects in the area.

“The President is in support of this government and therefore we shall go with full speed and deliver services to Wanjiku,” he said on Sunday.

Speaking at Kamangu PCEA church in Kikuyu during a funds drive, the governor said  his administration would work overdrive to recover the time  lost by his predecessor Ferdinand Waititu, in what he called petty political fights.

“There’s no honeymoon and politicking at the expense of development and I want to ensure that within the next 100 days, development will start being felt in all corners of the county,” he said.

Nyoro urged locals to support the contents of the Building Bridges Initiative noting that Central Kenya region would benefit the most if universal suffrage is made law and implemented to the letter.

Nyoro however, clashed with Kikuyu MP Kimani Ichungw’a when the latter challenged the former to desist from attacking Kiambu county legislators in BBI forums.

“Mr. governor I want to beseech you not to repeat the mistake you made in Kitui when you publicly rebuked and shouted at Gatundu South MP Moses Kuria,” said Ichungw’a.

The MP who is allied to the Tanga Tanga political formation associated with Deputy President William Ruto termed the ongoing BBI validation forums as a political fraud.

He said that the forums are using billions of shillings which would otherwise be used in development.
