Kiambaa MP: CS Soipan has been summoned to Parliament over Jubaland invasion
By Mabonga Makhanu, September 3, 2025Kiambaa MP John Kawanjiku has come out to state that the Defence Cabinet Secretary Soipan Tuya has been summoned to appear before the parliamentary defence committee to shed light on the invasion of Mandera by Jubaland forces.
While addressing the media on Wednesday, September 3, 2025, the young legislator confirmed that the cabinet secretary has been summoned to the committee to clarify the uproar and fear that has engulfed the country and to state the position of the Government on the issue.

“Tumealika Waziri wa Defence Soipan Tuya, katika committee ya defence, auje afafanue kinagaubaga either ni mukataba serikali iko nayo na watu wa Jubaland ama ni nini kinaendelea huko Mandera,” Kawanjiku said.
He also added that the silence by the government despite the uproar from various quarters on the insecurity posed by the Jubaland militias in the north should not be mistaken, according to him. When the government decides to remain silent on an issue of such magnitude, the government is likely aware of something since, according to Kawanjiku, security issues are always sensitive.
“Ukiona serikali haijachukua hatua yeyote, inamanisha ya kwamba kuna jambo serikali inalielewa; mambo ya security are very sensitive, kwa hivyo ukiona kama serikali haijatoa hayo mambo nche kuna mambo.”
Opposition leaders’ reaction
This comes amid uproar from several Kenyan leaders on the security situation in the north; several opposition leaders have come out to raise alarm on the Jubaland forces in Mandera.
The first leader to air his concerns about the situation was former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, who, shortly after arriving in the country from the United States, raised this alarm, expressing disappointment with the silence of leaders from the county as insecurity continues to escalate in the region.
DAP-K party leader Eugene Wamalwa, on his part, raised his concerns on Wednesday, September 3, 2025, about the dominance of the said militias, questioning the silence of the relevant authorities, such as the defence cabinet secretary and the KDF administration, saying that by now they ought to have released a statement on the same.

He also voiced what the locals in the area are going through. According to him, an MCA elected on the DAPK party who hails from the region has personally told him that people in the area are living in constant fear; some are not even attending to their farms, with some, according to Eugene, forced to migrate due to the growing insecurity.
