Kiambaa by-elections: All systems go as IEBC cautions aspirants against chaos

Aspirants in the Kiambaa by-elections have until 6pm on Monday, July 12 to conclude their campaigns as indicated by the constitution.

According to Kiambaa IEBC returning officer Peter Muigai, the aspirants should strictly adhere to the law in an effort to give equal chances to all parties in the race.

Speaking at St Pauls University in Limuru where the excise of training all the IEBC officials who will be on charge of the upcoming by-elections, Muigai has assured Kiambaa residents credible and fair elections.

“We are ready to conduct free and fair by-election in Kiambaa and ensure the people’s will is upheld,” Muigai said.

The commission has about over 1,100 officials who will take charge of the Thursday 15 by-elections as the training excise comes to an end this evening.

In addition the Kiambaa returning officer, revealed that security apparatus are investigating yesterday’s fracas which involved factions from UDA and Jubilee party at Karuri play grounds. Muigai called upon politicians to embrace peaceful campaigns.

“Politicians should maintain peace and harmony in the country at all cost,” the returning officer said.

However, Muigai disclosed that as a commission they are hopeful a good number of registered voters who will come out and express their constitutional right.
