The Kenya Rural Roads Authority (KeRRA) has announced a traffic disruption along sections of the Ngong-Suswa Road to facilitate essential maintenance work along this stretch of the highway.

In a public notice issued on Wednesday, May 14, 2025, the authority said that the temporary closure would affect different segments of the road over varying durations.

According to KeRRA, the section between Ngere Road junction and KIBHT junction will be closed until May 20, 2025, while the stretch from Matonyok to Ngere Road Junction will remain inaccessible until June 11, 2025.

“We wish to notify the general public that the section of the Ngong-Suswa Road between Km 0+000 (Matonyok) and Km 2+600 (Junction to KIBHT) will be closed to all traffic as follows: Km 1+400 (Ngere Road Junction) to Km 2+600 (Junction to KIBHT): Closed from 12th May 2025 to 20th May 2025 Km 0+000 (Matonyok) to Km 1+400 (Ngere Road Junction): Closed from May 12, 2025, to June 11, 2025,” KeRRA’s public notice reads in part.

“This closure is necessary to allow the contractor to carry out major construction work under constrained site conditions.”

In addition, the authority pointed out that the previous temporary diversions have proven inadequate and raised safety concerns, particularly during the ongoing rainy season.

“The temporary diversions previously in place have proven inadequate and pose safety concerns, especially during rainy conditions,” KeRRA stated.

Motorists using the affected roads have been advised to use the alternative route via Lemiso-Maragara-Kibiko Road and to follow the guidance of traffic marshals and police officers stationed along the route.

KeRRA also urged road users to exercise patience and caution as they work to improve the infrastructure and enhance road safety in the area.

“We urge motorists to use the alternative route via Lemiso Road-Maragara Road-Kibiko, as shown in the sketch below, and to follow guidance by traffic marshals and police,” KeRRA directed.
