Kenya receives 880,000 Moderna Covid-19 vaccine doses

Kenya on Monday morning received another 880,000 doses of the Moderna Covid-19 vaccine doses from the United States.
This now makes 1.7 million Moderna vaccines doses available in the country.
The consignment was received at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport by Ministry of Health Cabinet Secretary, Mutahi Kagwe, US Embassy representative, Marc Bulterys, Unicef Chief of Health, Yaron Wolman and WHO acting representative, Juliet Nabyonga.
“As we said last time during the arrival of the first consignment, Moderna is the the second vaccine to be deployed in the country after we started administering AstraZeneca in March this year,” CS Kagwe said.
Kagwe thanked the US government for the donation saying it came at a time when Kenya was in a robust vaccination campaign against the Covid-19 pandemic.
“We are equally grateful for the donations that we have so far received from other development partners and well wishers,” the CS added.
The CS further said 2,050,377 Kenyans have received their 1st dose and 812,151 of them are now fully vaccinated.
“The uptake of vaccines in the country is very encouraging as majority of Kenyans have responded well to our call to come out and get vaccinated,” he said.
Kenya expects to vaccinate at least 10 million people against Covid-19 by December 2021.
