Kenya Power schedules blackout in parts of 5 counties on Monday, August 18
By William Muthama, August 17, 2025Kenya Power has announced planned electricity maintenance that will affect parts of five counties on Monday, August 18, 2025.
The scheduled blackout is part of essential upgrades and repairs aimed at improving the reliability and stability of the power network for consumers.
Nairobi and Central Rift affected
In Nairobi County, the blackout will impact residents of Kitsuru from 7:00 am to 5:00 pm. Affected areas include Kinanda Road, ISK, Kirawa Road, Manga Garden, Kitsuru Forward, Tate Close, Serenity Spa, Mitini Estate, Ngecha Estate, Lake View Estate, and neighbouring homes and businesses.
Residents have been urged to plan accordingly, especially institutions and businesses that rely heavily on electricity.

Kericho County in the Central Rift will also experience power interruptions from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm. Key affected locations include Ngoinaroad Market, Tulwet Boys Secondary School, Mosore Centre, Roret Boys, Reresik Centre, part of Roret Market, Mabasi Centre, Bakitra Primary School, Monoru, and nearby customers.
South Nyanza and Mt. Kenya regions
In South Nyanza, parts of Kisii County will face outages from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm. Areas affected include Gesonso Market, Gesonso Police Station, Iterio Complex, Suneka Market, Itibo Hotel, Kisii University, Kisii Polytechnic, Nyanchwa Ekerore, Tabaka Hospital, and surrounding estates.
Parts of the Mt. Kenya region will also be affected. In Nyeri County, residents of Kwa Tailor, Waheire, Karia, Gitero, Muthuaini, Kagwathi, Tetu TVC, Muthuaini C/Fact, and Kiandere Market will experience outages from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm.
Meanwhile, Laikipia County areas, including Burguret and Guara, will be without power from 9:00 am to 12:00 pm. Affected locations include Nanyuki Airstrip, Anka Resort, Tambuzi Farm, Trout Tree Hotel, Aberdare Prestige Cottages, Tropical Timber, and nearby customers.
Kenya Power has advised residents and businesses to take necessary precautions during the outages, including using backup generators and avoiding unnecessary electricity use.
The company emphasised that the maintenance work is crucial for sustaining a stable and reliable electricity supply across the affected regions.
