Kenya Power lists areas to experience blackout on Monday, March 9
By Mustafa Juma, March 8, 2026The Kenya Power and Lighting Company (KPLC) has announced scheduled power interruptions in several parts of the Mt Kenya Region and Kiambu County on Monday, March 9, as part of routine electricity network maintenance.
In a public notice issued via social media on Sunday, March 8, 2026, the utility company said the planned outages will take place between morning and evening hours in selected areas across Nyeri County, Laikipia County, and Kiambu County to allow technicians to carry out system upgrades and maintenance works.
Nyeri County
Electricity supply will be interrupted from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. in parts of Nyeri County.
Areas expected to be affected include Nyaithe, Culvert, Muthoka Village, Gathungo, Ithekahuno, Karo, Karathi, Thageini, Kiaraho, Maingirano, and surrounding customers.
Kenya Power said the maintenance work aims to improve power reliability and reduce the risk of unexpected outages in the region.

Laikipia County
In Laikipia County, electricity supply will be interrupted from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. in sections of Muthaiga Estate in Nanyuki.
Areas that will experience the blackout include Kanyoni Estate, Fairmount Safari Club, 1KR, parts of Muthaiga Estate, Brickwoods Schools Nanyuki, Kwa Mwea, and nearby customers.

Kiambu County
In Kiambu County, power will be unavailable from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. in parts of Mutomo and Kiganjo Market.
Affected areas include Mama Ngina University, Mutomo Market, Ichaweri, Kiganjo Market, Ndundu Market, Muhoho High School, Theta Tea Factory, Theta Water, Gatitu Girls, and adjacent customers.

The company conducts periodic maintenance to upgrade infrastructure, connect new customers, and enhance stability in the national power grid.
Power is expected to be restored once the maintenance work is completed.
