Kenya Met issues 7-day weather update
The Kenya Meteorological Department (Kenya Met) has issued a seven-day weather update indicating expected downpour between April 7 and 13, 2026.
This advisory, published on Tuesday, April 7, 2026, in Kenya Met’s Biometeorological Weekly Bulletin, the met department has noted that Nairobi, Murang’a, Kisii, and several other counties are likely to experience a cumulative rainfall of up to 50 mm.
The bulletin indicates that Nairobi, Murang’a, Nyeri, Embu, Kirinyaga, Meru, and Tharaka Nithi are expected to receive cumulative rainfall exceeding 50mm this week
“Few places in Counties such as Nairobi, Murang’a, Nyeri, Embu, Kirinyaga, Meru and Tharaka Nithi in the Highlands East of Rift Valley are expected to receive cumulative rainfall >50mm during the forecast period,” the alert read in part.
At the same time, the Weatherman has warned that rainfall is expected to continue in several parts of the country, particularly in the Central Highlands, South Rift Valley, South-eastern Lowlands, Coastal region, Western Kenya and North-eastern Kenya.

Detailed regional forecasts
Morning rains are likely to occur over a few places in the Afternoon and night showers, and Thunderstorms are expected over a few places.
The places include, Highlands West of the Rift Valley, the Lake Victoria Basin and the Rift Valley (Nandi, Kakamega, Vihiga, Bungoma, Siaya, Busia, Baringo, Nakuru, Trans-Nzoia, Uasin-Gishu, Elgeyo-Marakwet, West-Pokot, Kisii, Nyamira, Kericho, Bomet, Kisumu, Homabay, Migori and Narok Counties):
At the same time, North-western Kenya (Turkana and Samburu Counties) is expected to experience Sunny intervals during the day, with partly cloudy conditions at night.
However, morning rains and night showers may occur over few places in the northern parts of Turkana County.
On the other hand, the Highlands East of the Rift Valley, which includes Nyandarua, Laikipia, Nyeri, Kirinyaga, Murang’a, Kiambu, Meru, Embu, Tharaka-Nithi and Nairobi Counties, Mornings are likely to be cloudy, with occasional rains over a few places, giving way to sunny intervals. Afternoon and night showers are expected over a few places.
Meanwhile, the North-eastern Kenya (Marsabit, Mandera, Wajir, Garissa and Isiolo Counties) will experience morning rains and afternoon and night showers are during the first half of the forecast period.
The South-eastern lowlands (Machakos, Kitui, Makueni, Kajiado and Taita-Taveta Counties as well as the inland parts of Tana-River County) is set to expect Sunny intervals during the day, with partly cloudy conditions at night. However, morning rains as well as afternoon and night showers may occur over few places.

Temperature outlook
On the other hand, the Temperature Outlook indicates that during daytime temperatures above 30°C are expected in the Coast, South-eastern Lowlands, North-eastern and North-western Kenya.
Also, Cool nights (<10°C) are likely in parts of the Central Highlands, Central Rift Valley, and near Mt. Kilimanjaro.
