Kenya, China draw out cooperation points after Ruto State visit

Kenya will co-operate with China in building capacity among law enforcement agencies to safeguard the safety and interests in both countries, Chinese Ambassador to Kenya Guo Haiyan has disclosed.
In a recent visit to Beijing, President William Ruto signed various deals with his Chinese counterpart, President Xi Jinping, including human trafficking, drug smuggling, telecom fraud, cybercrime, illicit arms trade, wildlife trafficking, illegal fishing, environmental crimes and money laundering.
In the area of security, Haiyan (pictured) revealed that there were talks for increased collaboration in personnel training, defence industry cooperation, counterterrorism, and joint exercises.
Haiyan said the two Heads of State witnessed the signing of a 20-cooperation document to jointly promote cooperation in the Belt and Road Initiative, Education and training, economy and trade and media cooperation.
In a press conference, Haiyan emphasised that the cooperation between the two countries is premised on mutual interests, investment, infrastructure construction, science and technology, education, culture and tourism.
“The two had an in-depth exchange of views on China-Kenya relations under the new circumstances of regional issues of mutual interests. The two sides agreed that countries should stay committed to the vision of common, comprehensive, cooperative and sustainable security,” said Haiyan.
The Ambassador said the two leaders agreed to implement the outcomes of the Forum for China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) and the plan for China-Kenya cooperation under the Belt and Road Initiative, strengthen the synergy with Kenya’s Bottom Up Economic Transformation Agenda (BETA) and enhance practical cooperation in various areas.
“In the field of investment, China encourages more leading Chinese enterprises to invest and set up businesses in Kenya to facilitate Kenya’s endeavour to expand its competitive production capacity. China will import more fine Kenyan products and promote balanced and sustainable bilateral trade,” said Haiyan.
