KeNHA restores traffic on Kitale-Morpus Road following closure
By Emmanuel Rono, March 23, 2026The Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) has announced the full restoration of traffic along the Kitale–Morpus Road after a section was rendered impassable earlier today.
In a traffic advisory issued on Monday, March 23, 2026, the roads authority confirmed that the Chapareria – Morpus section, situated approximately 1 km from Morpus, is now safe for motorable traffic.
“The Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) wishes to alert motorists and the public that traffic flow along the Chapareria-Morpus section, approximately 1 km from Morpus along the Kitale-Morpus Road, has been restored,” KeNHA Director General Luka Kimeli stated.
Earlier disruption
The authority noted that the affected area had previously been cut off, making travel between Chapareria and Sebit towards Lodwar unsafe for motorable traffic.
“The section had earlier been cut off, rendering movement between the Chapareria and Sebit sections towards Lodwar unsafe for motorable traffic,” KeNHA stated.
Monitoring and safety
The authority said that its technical teams will remain on-site to monitor the situation and perform any necessary stability works.
“KeNHA teams remain on site to monitor the situation and undertake any necessary works to ensure continued safety and stability of the road,” KeNHA stated.
The authority urges motorists using the route to remain vigilant.
Further, the Authority expressed gratitude to motorists and residents for their patience and cooperation during the period the road was impassable.
“Motorists may now resume normal travel along this section but are advised to exercise caution and follow instructions from traffic marshals and enforcement officers on site,” the advisory added.
