Kega calls for investigation of new Mt Kenya region forum
East Africa Legislative Assembly MP Kanini Kega yesterday asked the government to ban the new Kamwene Unity Forum formed by the Azimio la Umoja allied politicians from Mt Kenya region.
Narc Kenya Party leader Martha Karua and former Mukurwe-ini MP Jeremiah Kioni are behind the outfit.
But Kega, who is the secretary general of a faction of Jubilee Party, claimed the outfit was tribal and could promote ethnicity should it be registered as a political party or movement.
“Any leader supporting the creation and operation of Kamwene Unity Forum has no interest in Mt. Kenya because the outfit is a tribal movement that should not be allowed to operate,” said Kega (below).
The forum was formed on August 3 by Karua, Jubilee Secretary General Jeremiah Kioni and former Agriculture CS Peter Munya.
The leaders said the forum was formed to agitate for the interests of Mt Kenya region.
The group vowed to fight for equal share of national resources.
Kega also wants the government to now investigate the activities of the forum. He claims the outfit may be engaging in outlawed activities.
“The main reason why activities of the Kamwene Unity Forum should be investigated is because we are not sure of their intentions. They have not shown anyone their plan or what they are doing to champion the interest of the Mt. Kenya residents,” said Kega.
A section of leaders from the Mt. Kenya region have accused the forum’s leaders of pushing for their personal interests and not those of the region.
