KCB FC captain Brian Ochieng has said the team is shifting its focus to Gor Mahia after being held to a 1-1 draw by a rejuvenated Nzoia Sugar side at the Mumias Sports Complex this afternoon.

The Bankers started the match on a high, creating numerous chances in the early stages. Skipper Stephen Etyang’s free kick was saved by the keeper while Derrick Otanga’s low shot was also saved by the keeper.

Kenyan international Haniff Wesonga committed a foul outside the 18-yard box and was punished by Nzoia who scored a well-crafted goal from the set piece to give the home side 1-0 lead.

KCB responded well by creating chances but striker Philemon Nyakwakwa could not find the back of the net. Haniff Wesonga’s long throw ball saw Henry Ochieng slot in home to bring the Bankers level before the halftime break.

Keeper Gabriel Andika made an important save to deny the hosts another scoring opportunity and at the halftime whistle, the scores stood at 1-1.

In the second half, KCB’s wastefulness saw the home team maintain the 1-1 scoreline as striker Derrick Otanga could not convert in close range. Danson Namasaka also blasted his effort over the bar and at the end of the 90 minutes, the scoreline remained 1-1.

“I am really frustrated with this result. To be honest we created many chances and we could not convert. Now, it has come to bite us. As I said earlier, the coaches have done their part; it is up to us the players to perform better as we enter an important phase of the season. We are regrouping and focusing on the upcoming fixtures against Gor Mahia then Talanta but taking it a game at a time,” noted KCB FC Captain Brian Ochieng.

Mwalala’s charges will be back in action on Thursday May 16 against Gor Mahia, FKF will provide an update on the venue of the much-anticipated duel.
