Kasmuel McOure slams Sifuna after South C building collapse

By , January 2, 2026

Political activist Kasmuel McOure has launched a scathing attack on Nairobi Senator and Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) Secretary General Edwin Sifuna following the collapse of a multi-storey building in South C, Nairobi.

Taking to his official X account on Friday, January 2, 2025, McOure accused Sifuna of selectively exercising his oversight role, arguing that the senator is vocal on national issues but conspicuously silent when accountability is required within Nairobi County, which Sifuna was elected to oversee.

“Edwin Sifuna will oversight everything except Nairobi County, the mandate he was elected to oversee,” McOure stated.

Sifuna’s public comments

He further contrasted Sifuna’s recent public comments on national matters, including oil policy, with what he described as a lack of urgency and leadership after the deadly building collapse, which has been linked to alleged irregular approvals and weak enforcement by county authorities.

“Last week, he spoke about oil utmost urgency, but when a building collapses, and lives are lost due to reckless approvals by Nairobi County, that is where he draws the line. A horrible senator, but even worse Secretary General. Feilya!” he stated.

Call for accountability

The South C incident has reignited public anger over unsafe construction practices in Nairobi, with growing calls for accountability from both county officials and national leaders charged with oversight responsibilities.

Kileleshwa MCA Robert Alai has called for criminal charges against officials and professionals who, he says, should be held responsible for the deadly South C building collapse.

In a statement posted on X on Friday, January 2, 2025, Alai raised serious concerns about how the building was approved and later altered, arguing that the tragedy was not an accident but the result of failure, negligence, and corruption within planning and enforcement systems.

Alai said the building in question was originally approved for a limited number of floors but was later extended beyond what had been sanctioned, putting lives at risk.

He argued that such violations do not happen by chance and pointed to officials and professionals who, in his view, should have stopped the project before it became dangerous.
