Kangema MP demands apology from CS Magoha for ‘demeaning’ local school

Kangema Member of Parliament Peter Kihungi is demanding an apology from outgoing Education Cabinet Secretary George Magoha over his alleged demeaning remarks against a school in the constituency.

During a media briefing earlier in the week, the CS said education stakeholders will be submitting a report on the Competency-Based Curriculum to President William Ruto, who is ‘learned’, to make him understand the curriculum better.

He said Ruto is not from Kanyenyaini Primary School.

“We are not doing a report to someone who went to Kanyenyaini Primary School,” Magoha said.

Kihungi termed the CS’s remarks against Kanyenyaini Primary School as reckless that ought not to have come from a person at the helm of the Education docket in the country.

Addressing the media at Kangema, Kihungi said Magoha’s utterances about Kanyenyaini Primary School created an impression that the school cannot produce good learners.

He asked the CS to apologise to the learners in the school which has since turned into a laughing stock.

“I would not expect the CS who claims to have the goodwill of the school children to make such remarks aimed at disregarding the school and its learners,” the MP said.

“The parents and pupils of the school must be feeling humiliated and insulted by this statement,” he added.

The legislator said he will visit the school in the course of next week to encourage the learners amid reactions to the CS’s demeaning remarks.

“I will visit the school and I wish the CS would also accompany me so that he can apologize to the pupils and also give them a message of goodwill,” Kihungi quipped.

The MP also suggested that the remarks could also be directed to some of the people appointed to various positions who hail from the area.

He claimed the CS is seeking attention from the President for appointment into government and urged him to ‘do things the right way’.

Uproar in Kangema

Magoha’s remarks have created an uproar among the residents who said the school has produced so many professionals who are serving both in the government and private sector.

“We did not take those remarks lightly and we feel insulted by the CS and we demand for an apology,” John Mwangi, a resident stated.
