Kang’ata claims governors are compromising senators on the revenue sharing formula

Senate Majority Whip Irungu Kang’ata has said the Senate shall not be compromised in changing its stand on the revenue sharing formula.

Kang’ata claims that a number of governors whose counties are going to lose funds if the bill is implemented are the ones fighting it.

He claimed that these county bosses have been bribing some of the senators not to pass the bill.

“These county bosses are fighting so hard because they want to continue getting a lot of money despite having a lesser population,” he said.

He pointed out that the counties also benefit from the equilization funds which facilitates the implementation of various projects.

“These counties cannot be benefiting from both sides while other areas are being exploited,” he remarked.

“This is an injustice to the people in the densly populated areas who always get very little money for development,” he added.

Speaking in Kahuro, Murang’a over the weekend, Senator Kang’ata, however, said he is still optimistic that the Third Generation Revenue-Sharing bill shall sail through and each county shall get its rightful share.

He lauded the president’s move to wade into the debate terming it as a winning indicator.

“I am glad President Uhuru Kenyatta gave his position on this bill and this is what we have been pushing for,” he said.

Kang’ata also refuted claims that he and the Senate Majority Leader Samuel Poghisio have failed in their work in lobbying the senators to support the bill.

“We have done the best we can and there has been a gradual win towards the passing of the bill” he said.

He vowed not to relent until the bill is passed claiming that he has been receiving threats and being ridiculed over it.

“Nothing is going to make me change my stance on this issue, I am fighting for the rights of all people” he added.

Further, he said its not only the counties in Mt Kenya region are set to benefit from the bill, other regions too shall reap from it.
