Kalonzo’s party in street demos threat
MPs allied to the Azimio coalition yesterday warned that they will resort to street protests if the National Dialogue Committee does not address their demands.
The MPs, mainly allied to the Wiper Democratic Movement, warned that the party will call nationwide protests should the final report fail to address demands made by the Azimio representatives in the talks.
The fresh threats come as the committee is scheduled to resume meeting today to finalise its report.
Wiper Secretary General Shakilla Abdalla yesterday said they support party leader Kalonzo Musyoka’s position on the yet to be released report. Kalonzo is the co-chair of the committee.“We support our party leader Kalonzo Musyoka on his stance that we will call for protests should the bipartisan report not address our concerns,” said Abdalla.
Realised demands
He said they will do whatever it takes to ensure their demands are realised.
They mentioned impeachment of the President as one of the options on the table should the government fail to yield to their demands.
Kalonzo’s stance is backed by the coalition’s co-principal Martha Karua who last week announced that they will not compromise on their demands about the report and that they will head to the streets if the report is not satisfactory to them.
The Narc Kenya leader called on their supporters to prepare to stand for their rights should demonstration be the only option to compel the government to listen to them.
Wiper stressed that the report must address the high cost of living, overhaul of the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC), audit of the 2022 presidential election results and reinforcement of the Political Parties Act.
Karua last week urged supporters not to yield to intimidation from the government adding that it is the opportune time for Kenyans to join hands and restore sanity.
