Kalonzo fires warning over plans to arrest Gachagua upon his return from US
Wiper Patriotic Front Leader Kalonzo Musyoka has cautioned against plans to arrest Democracy For Citizens Party (DCP) leader Rigathi Gachagua upon his arrival from his two-month-long tour of the US.
Taking to his X page on Monday, August 18, 2025, Kalonzo warned that they will not tolerate any attempts to interfere with the homecoming of the former DP.
Plans to arrest Gachagua
“We have heard of plans that when he (Gachagua) arrives, he will be arrested over remarks he made about connections with the Al Shaabab and be placed under custody. I am surprised that they cannot tolerate him. We will not accept that if they attempt it, Kenya will not be the same again,” he stated.
The former VP has instead implored the government to allow for a peaceful return and reception by his supporters.
“Let him be allowed back in the country and be received by his people, and let Kenyans show their love for him,” he added.
His remarks come amid rising political temperatures ahead of the outspoken politician’s arrival date scheduled for Thursday, August 21, 2025.
The DCP’s Deputy Party Leader Cleophas Malala, while speaking on Monday, August 18, 2025, raised alarm over plans to divert the flight of former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua to Kisumu or Mombasa instead of Nairobi.

According to Malala, the party had already mobilised its members to prepare for any such scenario. He explained that supporters would be stationed in both Kisumu and Mombasa to receive their leader should the diversion plan be executed.
“We are also informed that there is a plan to divert this plane to either Kisumu or Mombasa international airports to arrest him there. We have also requested our members to plan and receive him in those respective airports,” Malala said.
He also cautioned against plans to arrest their leader, stressing that the move could spark undesirable consequences.
“We want to be very candid and particular on this matter. Take notice that any attempt to arrest Gachagua once he lands in the country will be met by our supporters in the country. We have asked our supporters to be on standby. Remember when our party leader, Gachagua implored upon his supporters to remain calm and not demonstrate? If so, then it should be through song and dance, but this time the song will be of a different rhythm,” he added
