Justina Wamae explains why United Opposition may split even if they win in 2027
By Mabonga Makhanu, November 1, 2025Former Roots Party deputy presidential running mate Justina Wamae has predicted a possible fallout within the United Opposition even if they manage to seize power in the 2027 elections.
In a statement posted on her social media pages on Saturday, November 1, 2025, Wamae suggested that the United Opposition could take the country back to a situation similar to what is currently being experienced in Kenya Kwanza, where President William Ruto has clashed with his former deputy, Rigathi Gachagua.

Prediction
According to Wamae, if the United Opposition wins the 2027 presidential election with the support of the public, a fallout would be inevitable. She argues that the sitting president, who she claims will have brought fewer votes to the table than the deputy, will eventually grow tired of the control, threats, and intimidation.
“In the event the forced united opposition wins the 2027 election with YOUR votes, they will definitely have a fallout because the sitting president, who will have brought fewer votes to the table than the standing president, will have had enough of control, threats and intimidation,” Wamae stated.
She further predicts that the sitting president would be forced to seek a handshake or a grand coalition with the former ousted president William Ruto, describing it as a “broad-based mongrel of an arrangement, like the one experienced with today’s regime”.
“The sitting President will be forced to look for former President Doyen for a handshake, cheque, grand coalition, or broad-based mongrel of an arrangement,” she added.

She further says that Kenyans will be the ones feeling the ripple effect since they will be left in the same vicious cycle of saying, ‘Next time we will be more careful.’
“And Kenyans will be left saying next time…. Why say next time when you have the opportunity to vote for POLICY over personality NOW?” she asked.
United opposition
There comes a time when the united opposition is set to settle on its preferred flagbearer. All the principals have declared interest in the top seat but have all vowed to rally behind one candidate who will be chosen amongst themselves by using a formula.

The latest to officially join the united opposition was former interior cabinet secretary Fred Matiang’i, who was endorsed by the Jubilee Party as its presidential flag bearer in 2027, with the party allowing him to represent them in the united opposition talks.
