A postmortem examination to establish the cause of death of the Court of Appeal judge Justice Otieno Odek will be done tomorrow, the family has confirmed.

Justice Odek’s elder brother, Yonah Odek said the autopsy will be conducted at the Aga Khan Hospital in Kisumu.

He said the Chief Government pathologist Johansen Oduor has confirmed his presence to carry out the exercise.

He revealed that the burial arrangements were ongoing with the judge’s remains set to be buried on Friday at his rural home in Asembo, Siaya County.

This comes after family members and Judiciary officials on Wednesday held a joint meeting in Nairobi to discuss the postmortem and burial plans.

The post-mortem exercise was scheduled to be carried out at the hospital last Thursday but postponed following a directive from the Director of Criminal Investigations George Kinoti that the exercise should be done in the presence of Oduor, who was not present by then.

Nyanza Regional DCI boss James Kipsoi said the decision to push forward the judge’s remains examination was necessitated by the instruction of DCI boss that the exercise must be done under Oduor’s watch.
