Supreme Court Judge Njoki Ndung’u on Thursday, May 28, 2026, made an appearance at the National Prayer Breakfast held in Nairobi, joining senior government officials, members of the judiciary, and religious leaders in the high-profile national gathering.

Her arrival comes at a time when she continues to attract both national and international attention following her nomination for a key judicial position at the International Criminal Court (ICC), a development that has placed Kenya’s legal diplomacy on the global stage.

The prayer breakfast brought together leaders from different sectors of government and society, with discussions centred on unity, governance, and national values, reflecting Kenya’s ongoing efforts to strengthen cohesion amid political and economic pressures.

During the launch event, government officials led by Principal Secretary in the State Department for Foreign Affairs, Korir Sing’oei described Justice Ndung’u as a candidate of exceptional integrity, competence, and independence.

“We present a candidate who, in our view, meets the highest criteria as well as integrity, competence and independence that judges of the world court should possess,” Sing’oei said.

The government has been actively rallying international support for her candidature, underscoring Kenya’s broader diplomatic engagement within the framework of the Rome Statute and global justice systems.

At State House, Nairobi, the president introduced her to several visiting leaders, including French President Emmanuel Macron and other African heads of state, as part of efforts to boost Kenya’s visibility in international judicial leadership.

Officials say the candidature reflects Kenya’s growing influence in global justice and human rights discourse, with emphasis placed on experience, constitutional expertise, and judicial independence.

Justice Ndung’u, who has served in Kenya’s judiciary for years, is widely recognised for her contribution to constitutional law and human rights, having previously served in the High Court and later the Supreme Court.
