By Kiplagat Sang, July 2, 2025Here is what you need to know to keep up to speed with today’s happenings.
The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) will continue to be under the spotlight following the disappearance of Kinoo blogger Ndiangui Kinyagia.
On Tuesday, July 1, the DCI told the court that the blogger is not in their custody, nor do they know his whereabouts.
Appearing before Justice Chacha Mwita on Tuesday, July 1, 2025, lawyer Christopher Marwa, who was representing the DCI Director Mohammed Amin, told the court that they had not complied with the order that stated they produce the missing blogger.
“Your lordships, we have partially complied; what we have not been able to comply with is part of order five, which directed that my client produce the second petitioner (Kinyagia) in court today,” lawyer Marwa told the court.
Further, Marwa told the court that they have a sworn affidavit that gives the account of what happened on the day the blogger got lost.
“We have been able to give an account of what happened that resulted in the application that is before you, and in paragraph 20, my client, your lordship, has confirmed that they did not arrest the second petitioner, and so, your lordship, the second petitioner is not in the hands of my client,” lawyer Marwa told the court.
More leaders are expected to add their voices on Kinyagia’s disappearance.
Ruto’s European tour
President William Ruto’s engagements during his European tour will be another issue of national focus.
The Head of State has visited Spain and the UK, where he met high-level officials, including Prime Minister Keir Starmer. After meeting the PM, it was revealed that Kenya and the UK have signed a renewed five-year Kenya–UK Strategic Partnership expected to unlock investments worth over Ksh427 billion.
As part of the technology pillar, the UK has committed Ksh17.7 billion to support over 500 start-ups and 5,000 digitally driven SMEs.
The funding is expected to unlock 30,000 digital jobs and deepen collaboration in advanced technologies such as artificial intelligence. In his remarks, President Ruto welcomed the move, noting it would position Kenya as a tech powerhouse on the continent.
Ruto is expected to secure more deals on his tour.
