Joshua Kutuny breaks silence on Ruto–Gideon Moi meeting, urges Alfred Keter to follow suit
By Faith Lagat, October 11, 2025The political spotlight in Kenya’s Rift Valley has shifted following former Cherangany MP Joshua Kutuny’s remarks on the recent meeting between President William Ruto and former Baringo Senator Gideon Moi.
Speaking during a burial in Ziwa, Uasin Gishu County, on October 10, 2025, Kutuny praised the Ruto–Moi pact as a significant milestone for the Kalenjin community and urged other leaders, including vocal critic Alfred Keter, to join the unity push.
This development comes shortly after businessman and Uasin Gishu gubernatorial hopeful Zedekiah Bundotich Kiprop, popularly known as Buzeki, officially joined the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) on September 11, 2025, signaling a realignment of political forces in the region.
Kutuny hails pact, urges leaders to rally Ruto
Kutuny reflected on President Ruto’s political journey, noting the importance of past alliances in shaping the current political landscape. “Had you not stood with President Ruto while he was an MP here, he wouldn’t have forged ahead to leading the nation,” he stated.
He lauded the Ruto–Moi alliance, revealing, “I want to laud Ruto–Gideon Moi pact, in fact they are holding a meeting at Kabarak so that we can forge ahead together, their union is a great milestone for us, Ruto has united the Kalenjin nation.”
Kutuny also reached out to Keter, saying, “I have talked with Alfred Keter that no one should be left behind while we are making efforts in uniting; he is ready to do so. We are all convinced to hold hands and move ahead, and we are not debating anymore on who will take the presidency other than Ruto.” He emphasised the evolving nature of leadership, linking public expression to community representation.

Rift Valley politics at a crossroads
Meanwhile, Buzeki’s entry into UDA, presided over by Vice Chairperson Hassan Omar, has drawn mixed reactions. His supporters view it as a strategic shift, while rivals question its long-term impact. Keter remains defiant, posting on X, “For avoidance of doubt, I am not boarding! Wantam Is Wantam!” on September 11, signaling his independent stance.
During his visit to Kabarak on October 10, President Ruto underscored the importance of unity, recalling his close ties with the late President Daniel Moi and emphasising collective action for national progress.
Gideon Moi, on his part, explained his withdrawal from the Baringo senatorial race, citing unfinished development projects and a decision to support the president’s agenda.
