Muranga Senator Joe Nyutu has dismissed the possibility of President William Ruto getting re-elected in the next general election. Nyutu has said that the elections will not be a race between Ruto and the competitor, but between him and the people of the Republic of Kenya.

Speaking during an interview with one of the local TV stations on Thursday, January 29, 2026, Senator Nyutu disputed Ruto’s recent remarks of winning the elections with a margin of 2-3 million votes, saying that the United Opposition candidate will be fronted by the people of Kenya to face out with Ruto in the 2027 election.

“It doesn’t matter who our candidate is because he will be fronted by Kenyans. This is an election between the people and President Ruto. I’ll refer to 2002, when six months before the election, Kibaki and Raila were in different political fiefs, but it was when they came together that they won the election.”

2027 a mirror of2002

In addition, Nyutu has likened the 2027 General Elections to the 2002 elections, when former president the late Mwai Kibaki was declared the candidate six months before the general elections and emerged as the winner because he had the backing from the people of Kenya, and he was their favourite candidate.

Nyutu was seemingly blasting Ruto’s remarks that he will win the 2027 General Elections with a margin of between 2-3 million votes. Ruto spoke at State House during the UDA National Governing Council (NGC) meeting held on Monday, January 26, 2026.

Recently, political parties have been seen to make political alignments ahead of the forthcoming general elections, with the ruling party, UDA, seeking a pact between them and the ODM party. Moses Wetang’ula’s Ford Kenya and Musalia Mudavadi’s Amani National Coalition (ANC) are among the parties backing President Ruto’s side.

The United Opposition, on the other hand, has brought together the DCP party led by former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, Uhuru’s Jubilee party, Wiper Patriotic Movement led by former vice president Kalonzo Musyoka, Martha Karua’s PLP and DAP-K.

These political alignments are expected to evolve in the wake of the 2027 General Elections and campaigns.
