President Trump inauguration
The United States of America president-elect Donald Trump is expected to be inaugurated today, January 20, 2025.
This is after the former president staged a political comeback during the November 2024 elections where he decisively won against his democratic competitor and Vice-President Kamala Harris.
On the eve of his inauguration on January 19, 2025, the Republican leader stated that he would be signing a raft of laws into effect in line with the promises he made to his voters.
“The American people have given us their trust, and in return, we’re going to give them the best first day, the biggest first week and the most extraordinary first 100 days of any presidency in American history,” Trump said.
The inauguration ceremony is scheduled to begin in the evening from 7:00 pm local time.
Swearing-in of PSC commissioners
Chief Justice Martha Koome is set to swear in members of the Public Service Commission today on Monday, January 20, 2025, at 9:00 am.
Koome is set to administer the oath of office to the Vice-Chairperson of the commission Mary Kimonye alongside seven other commissioners.
The commissioners include former NTSA boss Francis Mejja, former IEBC commissioner Boya Molu, Maalim Hassan, Amani Mabruki, Irene Cherotich, Joan Andisi and Francis Owino.
The ceremony is scheduled to happen at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre (KICC)’s Shimba Hall.
The commissioners will serve for a period of six years following their successful vetting and approval by members of parliament.
Ruto’s Kakamega County tour
President William Ruto is expected to kick-start his tour of Kakamega County today Monday, January 20, 2025.
Ruto travelled to the County on Sunday, January 19, 2025, ahead of his scheduled tour just days following the ruling party’s merger with Musalia Mudavadi’s Amani National Congress (ANC) party on Friday, January 18, 2025.
The tour also comes amid growing discontent with the president in the vote-rich Mount Kenya region, while the president is seen to be courting formerly opposition strongholds as a lifeline to his 2027 ambitions.
