It’s about time schools reopen, CS Magoha says

By , September 21, 2020

Teachers Service Commission (TSC) chief executive, Dr. Nancy Macharia, has ordered primary and secondary school teachers to report to work.

Dr. Macharia issued the directive on Monday morning after Education Cabinet Secretary (CS), Prof. George Magoha said: “It is about time schools reopened.”

“We have deliberated on this matter as the stakeholders and we direct all teachers to report any day by September 28 for the eventual opening of the schools,” said Macharia.

Speaking at the Kenya Institute of Curriculum Development(KICD) headquarters at Nairobi, CS Magoha said a new academic calender will be announced after a stakeholders’ meeting.

But Prof. Magoha said final year university students pursuing science-related courses are free to resume classroom learning ahead of their final exams.

The universities, Prof. Magoha said, must ensure students observe Covid-19 prevention protocols.

Ms Macharia said the parents should be rest assured that the teachers are well prepared to have the pupils and the students back to school.
