At least 207,000 beneficiaries of Inua Jamii have so far enrolled for the M-Pesa payment and received their December monies through the same platform.

Social Protection Principal Secretary, Joseph Motari said that the Government has also started paying for January amid a slight delay.

“The delay is because of the transition period that we had and to wait for M-Pesa systems to be configured with the banks but only for the orphans and vulnerable children and persons with severe disabilities,” said the PS in a press conference held in Nairobi.

Cash transfer

For the older person’s cash transfer, the PS said that it has been running on time.

The PS however said that there are about 100,000 beneficiaries who have not enrolled on the new system and will be paid through the bank accounts for the last time and only have this month to enroll to the M-PESA payment.

“The caregivers for orphans and vulnerable as well as for persons with severe disability must register to continue receiving their Inua Jamii stipends. If they do not register, this is the last amnesty we are giving,” said the PS.

He said this is an engagement the Government is having with Safaricom free of charges.
