Homa Bay Town Member of Parliament (MP) Peter Kaluma on Sunday, November 3, 2024, weighed in on the impending appointment of Interior Cabinet Secretary (CS).

Alluding to the current vacancy temporarily occupied by Prime CS Musalia Mudavadi following the assumption of Kithure Kindiki to the office of the Deputy President, Kaluma stated that the position should be reserved for the Luos.

According to the MP, all communities of Kenya deserve to get their due constitutional share of public service appointments.

“Let all communities of Kenya get their due constitutional share of public service appointments. The position of Cabinet Secretary for Interior and Coordination of the National Government should go to a Luo,” the MP said.

He defended his stance saying Luos are the greatest defenders of human rights and fundamental freedom.

“Luos are the greatest defenders of Human Rights and Fundamental Freedoms,” he added.

Debates on the vacancy have hit an all-time high following Kindiki’s appointment as Kenya’s third deputy president under the 2010 Constitution.

Recently a section of Kenyans speculated that the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party was eyeing the position.

Rumours indicated that the position was reserved for Suna East MP Junet Mohamed.

Junet, however, dismissed the claims, noting that he was not eyeing the position. He added that the ODM party was not expecting another guru to be tapped by the Kenya Kwanza administration.

“Whereas an opportunity to serve fellow Kenyans in any capacity is always welcome, I wish to inform the public that I am neither one of the people angling for the job nor has the ODM Party shown any interest in seeking to have another party expert join the government in that capacity,” Junet said.
