Inside Ruto’s itinerary in Ukambani ahead of Mashujaa Day celebrations
President William Ruto is set to embark on a week-long development tour of the Ukambani region ahead of Mashujaa Day celebrations on Monday, October 20, 2025.
According to his itinerary, Ruto will tour Machakos, Makueni, and Kitui counties and culminate on Mashujaa Day, with a focus on key development projects across the region.
The plan was finalised on Friday, October 10, 2025, following a meeting between the Kenya Kwanza MPs and government officials from the three counties with Ruto.
Ruto’s itinerary will kick off on Wednesday, October 15, 2025, with a visit to Mwingi West and Kitu East and Kangundo.
The president will launch the Kwasiku Migwani Mbondoni Road, recently upgraded to bitumen standards.
In Kangundo, the head of state will also preside over the tarmacking of the Mwala-Kangundo.
Upon completion, the road will ease traffic at Mombasa Road and open up Mwala and Kangundo for businesses. It will also serve both Kitui and Machakos county people, as it’s the shortcut to the city.

A busy Friday, October 17, will see the president visit Kibwezi West, Kitui South, and finally Kitui Central, the venue of this year’s Mashujaa Day celebrations, where he is expected to open the Ithookwe Stadium on Friday.
More project launches will follow across the region on October 21–22.
For Mwingi North, the Head of State is scheduled to visit on Wednesday, October 22, 2025, to officially hand over the Kamuwongo Modern Market and launch the completion works of the Kandwia–Kamuwongo Road tarmac.
Kenya Kwanza leaders have hailed the tour as a demonstration of the President’s commitment to Ukambani’s growth and development.
The visit comes even as Wiper Leader and the regional kingpin, Kalonzo Musyoka, has accused the government of trying to woo the people through the projects he claimed are a right of the people, regardless of their political affiliations.
Among the Kenya Kwanza leaders expected to accompany the president for the tour is Mwala MP Vincent Musyoka Kawaya, who led the delegation at State House alongside Labour CS Alfred Mutua.
Other leaders who attended the State House planning event are PS Jonahthan Mueke, MPs Mwengi Mutuse (Kibwezi West), Rachael Kaki Nyamai (Kitui South), Caleb Mule (Machakos Town), Joshua Mwalyo (Masinga), and Nominated Senators Tabitha Mutinda and Beth Syengo.
