Agriculture and Livestock Development Cabinet Secretary (CS) nominee Mithika Linturi on Friday told Parliament that he is worth Ksh1.2 billion.

Speaking when he appeared before a vetting committee, Linturi said he has shares in Saccos and his income is mainly from developed properties.

“Mr Chairman my financial net worth which includes my investments in various companies in this country and other investments in Saccos are to the tune of Ksh1.2 billion.

“My current income is money I get out of rental income. Business, I’m a dairy farmer, and the amount I’m expecting to get in the near future is beyond Sh1 billion,” he told the committee.

Linturi now becomes the second richest Cabinet nominee after Musalia Mudavadi who put his net worth at Ksh4 billion.

Linturi, Keitany property case

The former Meru senator has been battling a court case with his estranged wife the current Aldai Member of Parliament (MP) Merryanne Keitany over a property in Runda.

The former chief of staff in the Deputy President’s office told the court that when they decided to make their relationship formal, they acquired a house in the upmarket Runda suburb which cost Sh110 million to accommodate their six children.

“I paid Sh30 million for the (Runda) house… we got the other amount from Atticon Company which we were both managing,” she told the court.

Keitany, who also claimed to have spent Ksh26 million from her pocket to renovate Linturi’s Meru rural house which had cost Ksh40 million to build, told the court that she believed she was renovating her home.

She was testifying in a divorce case that she had filed against the politician who claimed she was “just a visitor” in his home and that he could not have been married to her as he was already in a legally recognised relationship.

However, Keitany dismissed the claims, saying she used to pay house rent for Linturi when he was broke and had rent arrears, before they moved into the Runda home.

The case is yet to be determined.
