‘If we are not careful, Kenya will be the smallest economy in East Africa’ – Senator Kajwang’
By Achieng' Mary, February 19, 2025Homa Bay Senator Moses Kajwang’ has weighed in on the country’s economic state.
Speaking on Wednesday, February 19, 2025, Kajwang’, who serves as the Chairman of the Senate Committee on Public Accounts, shared that Kenya has a misconceived notion that the economy is still doing well.
He noted that, with the perceived notion, Kenya is likely to become the smallest economy in East Africa.

“We have this misconceived notion that Kenya is still a great economy; If we are not careful Kenya will be the smallest economy in East Africa,” he said.
The senator’s remarks come amid concerns of the country’s economic state and the increased taxations burdening citizens.
Despite continuous complaints from sections of Kenyans and members of the political divide, President William Ruto and other leaders allied to the Kenya Kwanza regime insist that the economy is flourishing.
Govt’s perspective
In January, Ruto maintained that the country’s economy was healing and that Kenya was headed towards economic stability.

Speaking when he attended the Global Cathedral Sunday service at KICC’s COMESA Grounds in Nairobi, Ruto stated that he was confident of he country’s future as God was taking it to greater heights.
“Just yesterday we got good news about what God is doing in healing our economy,” Ruto said.
“Kenya is going to go places, our economy is healing, and by working together, inflation, interest, and exchange rates have come down. We have seen a great movement towards the healing of our economy so that we can proudly move together as a nation. I believe 2025 will be a great year.”
