IEBC to resume continuous voter registration in 30 constituencies from January 12
By Joel Masibo, January 10, 2026The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has announced the resumption of Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) in 30 constituencies across the country, effective Monday, January 12, 2026.
In a Saturday, January 10, 2026 statement, the Commission said the exercise had been temporarily suspended in the affected areas to allow for the conduct of the Thursday, November 27, 2025 by-elections.
Resumption of CVR
“The Commission hereby announces resumption of Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) in the following electoral areas,” IEBC stated.
The constituencies set to benefit from the renewed registration drive are Magarini, Galole, Fafi, Banissa, Machakos Town, Turkana North, Turkana West, Samburu North, Moiben, Keiyo South, Chesumei, Tiaty, Baringo North, Baringo Central, Baringo South, Mogotio, Eldama Ravine, Narok North, Kajiado Central, Khwisero, Kabuchai, Ugunja, Kasipul, West Mugirango, North Mugirango, Borabu and Embakasi North.

At the same time, IEBC urged eligible Kenyans in the listed constituencies who are yet to register as voters to take advantage of the opportunity ahead of future electoral processes. The Commission has also published the official notice on the resumption of CVR in Gazette Notice No. 336, which is available for public access online.
The move comes as part of IEBC’s ongoing preparations for upcoming electoral events, including the February 26 by-elections and the 2027 general election, and its broader mandate to ensure continuous updates of the voters’ register.

Observers and media accreditation
Meanwhile, the Commission has also announced the opening of applications for the accreditation of election observers and media practitioners ahead of the by-elections scheduled for Thursday, February 26, 2026.
According to the notice released on Friday, January 9, 2026, the deadline for submission of applications is Friday, February 6, 2026, at 5.00 pm. IEBC emphasised that late applications will not be considered and urged interested parties to plan accordingly to avoid last-minute challenges.
”The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) invites applications from organisations wishing to be accredited as Election Observers and Media Practitioners for the By-Elections scheduled for 26th February 2026,” the notice dated Friday, January 9, 2026, reads in part.
Once the accreditation process is complete, IEBC will conduct training sessions for successful organisations and issue official badges. These badges will grant accredited observers and media practitioners access to polling stations and tallying centres during the by-elections.
