IEBC postpones certification of voter register
By evans.maritim, June 8, 2022Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has postponed the certification of the voter register that was set to be done on Thursday, June 9.
The commission said the register was still under audit and so far, the audit firm, KPMG, has noted anomalies that need to be addressed first.
“Due to the implementation of the preliminary audit findings in the register, the commission has decided to address the findings prior to certifying the register for publication,” Wafula Chebukati, IEBC chairman, said during a press briefing at the Bomas of Kenya on Wednesday, June 8.
IEBC to certitify register on June 20

Chebukati said the register will be certified on or before June 20 after the commission receives the final audit from KPMG on June 16.
The commission will thereafter have a stakeholder engagement on June 17.
The initial findings show 246,465 deceased voters, 481,711 duplicate records, 226,143 voters registered with IDs that do not validly belong to them, and 164, 269 registered voters with invalid documentation (IDs and passports).
“These issues have to be addressed before the certification of the voter register,” Chebukati added.
