IEBC outlines how to register as a voter after the end of enhanced registration exercise
By Emmanuel Rono, April 29, 2026The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) Chairperson Erastus Ethekon has announced that voter registration will remain open despite the conclusion of the Enhanced Continuous Voter Registration (ECVR) exercise.
In a statement late Tuesday night, April 28, 2026, Ethekon said Kenyans who were met by the deadline can still register as voters at Huduma Centres, IEBC constituency offices, and at the IEBC Customer Experience Centre at Anniversary Towers in Nairobi.
“Please note that voter registration will continue at Huduma Centres, the IEBC Customer Experience Centre at Anniversary Towers in Nairobi, as well as at IEBC Constituency Offices,” Ethekon said.
Appreciation to Kenyans who participated
Ethekon expressed appreciation to citizens who turned out to register as voters, noting that their participation is key in shaping the country’s democratic future.
He referred to Article 38 of the Constitution, emphasising that every citizen has the right to political participation, including the right to vote in free, fair and regular elections. IEBC emphasised that voter registration remains the gateway to exercising these rights.
“Today marks the end of the Enhanced Continuous Voter Registration (ECVR) exercise. I sincerely thank everyone who turned out to register as a voter and took part in shaping the future of our nation,” Ethekon said.
“As affirmed under Article 38 of the Constitution, every citizen has the right to exercise their political rights, including participating in free, fair, and regular elections. These rights can only be realized through voter registration, which is the gateway to active participation in the electoral process. Kenyan democracy is therefore in your hands.”
New voters
IEBC has announced that 1,876,274 new voters have been registered since the Enhanced Continuous Voter Registration (ECVR) exercise began on March 30, 2026.
In its latest update released on Friday, April 24, 2026, the commission said the figure reflects an increase of 505,344 new registrations in six days, rising from 1,370,930 reported on April 17, 2026.
“New registered voters: The number of newly registered voters since the commencement of ECVR on 30th March, 2026, to 23rd April, 2026, is 1,876,274,” read the IEBC statement in part.
