IEBC commissioner Cherera elected as Chebukati’s vice
Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) commissioner Juliana Cherera has been elected as Wafula Chebukati’s vice.
According to IEBC Chair Chebukati, Cherera was elected unanimously on Wednesday.
“The Commission would like to assure all stakeholders and public in general of its commitment to delivering free, fair and credible 2022 general election that meet the democratic aspirations of the people of Kenya,” he said.
Cherera was appointed alongside Francis Mathenge, Irene Masit and Justus Abonyo to serve as IEBC commissioners for a period of six years.
Consolata Nkatha was the commission’s vice chair before she resigned together with Paul Kurgat and Margaret Mwachanya in 2018.
Nkatha, Kurgat and Mwanchanya were appointed by President Uhuru Kenyatta last year as deputy heads of mission in Rome (Italy), Moscow (Russia) and Islamabad (Pakistan).
