The Multinational Security Support Mission (MSS) in Haiti has revealed the identity of the Kenyan police officer who died in a tragic road accident on Sunday, August 31, 2025.

In a post on their X account on Tuesday, September 2, 2025, the MSS confirmed that Corporal Kennedy Mutuku Nzuve lost his life during a recovery operation along the Kenscoff–Pétion-Ville road at Perlerin 9. He was pronounced dead at Lambert Santé Hospital in Pétion-Ville.

“In that moment, the Multinational Security Support Mission (MSS) in Haiti lost one of its finest officers. Corporal Kennedy Mutuku Nzuve was pronounced dead at Lambert Santé Hospital in Pétion-Ville,” the statement read.

According to MSS, the accident occurred at around 5pm when one of two MaxxPro vehicles involved in the recovery operation developed mechanical problems while towing the other.

The collision led to the death of Corporal Nzuve and a civilian, while eight other officers were injured. Three of the injured remain in serious condition and are expected to be medically evacuated to the Dominican Republic for specialised care.

Honouring Corporal Kennedy Nzuve

Born on March 8, 1984, in Machakos County, Corporal Nzuve joined Kenya’s National Police Service in 2005 and later served with the Rapid Deployment Unit (RDU). Over the years, he worked in various counties, including Narok and Baringo, and eventually joined Kenya’s 3rd contingent to the MSS in Haiti. Colleagues described him as a committed and courageous officer who consistently demonstrated dedication to international peace and security.

On Monday, September 1, personnel from Kenya, the Bahamas, Jamaica, El Salvador, Guatemala, and staff from supporting companies, including DMG, Amentum, Aspen, and Garda World, gathered at the MSS main dining facility in LSA1 to honour Corporal Nzuve in a solemn memorial service. His remains were later flown to the Dominican Republic for preservation and onward repatriation to Kenya.

The MSS extended its gratitude to the first responders, including the Haitian National Police, Forces Armées d’Haïti, local residents, and fellow MSS officers, for their swift action in evacuating the injured.

Kenya’s Foreign Affairs Principal Secretary Korir Sing’Oei also expressed condolences, describing the loss as “deeply saddening” and noting that Corporal Nzuve’s sacrifice contributes to a more peaceful Haiti. The National Police Service confirmed that his next of kin have been notified and arrangements are underway to bring his body home.

The mission, deployed over a year ago, continues amid challenging security conditions in Haiti, where Port-au-Prince remains largely under gang control. The MSS and international partners continue their efforts to restore safety and stability while honouring the memory of officers like Corporal Kennedy Mutuku Nzuve.
