Ida urges Kenyans to shift focus from election loss to nation building
Ida Odinga, the wife to Azimio leader Raila Odinga, has asked Kenyans to forget the pains that came with the presidential polls and instead invest time and energy on programs that will enhance their livelihoods.
“This year was engulfed with mixed blessings. Some have brought happiness and others pains but let us focus on positive side of life,” Ida said adding that it is now time to put focus on the positive side of life.
Mama Ida said Kenyans must now delve on development programs.
“Let us make use of the available resources to create wealth, like in this area we have rains that has not failed our people and have just passed farms that has high yield maize crops ready for harvests,” she added.
Ida said the region is promising and will not face hunger as that is likely to be experienced in other parts of the country.
She at the same time urged Governor James Orengo to invest on food productivity programs to ensure the Siaya residents enjoy food security adding that devolution was created to bring development in various regions.
“I am happy by the recent move of Orengo to procure fleet of tractors that will support farmers in the ploughing,” she said adding that the free seeds and subsidized fertilizers will benefit Siaya farmers and might compel even youths to opt for farming.
Her remarks come only two weeks after Orengo launched subsidized tractor hire services in Rarieda sub-County where he stated that a famer with an acre of land will only pay Ksh2000.
Orengo had also announced that famers will get free seeds while fertilizers will be given to them at a subsidized rate. The county head said that all these programs are meant to boost food security.
Ksh120 million was allocated at the supplementary budget to support the purchase of 10 tractors, procumbent of seeds, fertilizers and purchase of the rice mill equipment.
Ida further appealed to Siaya leaders to give Governor James Orengo the “time and space to deliver” on the promises.
“The government of Siaya “must also do more” to tackle the cost of living crisis and “restore the sense [in the public] there is a government they can trust and respect”
Orengo had faced criticism from Gem MP Elisha Odhiambo especially in the manner he made appointments in the cabinet.
Odhiambo felt that Orengo was sidelining people of Gem and he insisted that the County Secretary position be reserved for Gem sub-county.
