Ida Odinga: Kalonzo’s friendship with Raila can never be erased

By , November 6, 2025

Ida Odinga, the widow of the late former Prime Minister, has stated that the friendship Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka had with Raila Odinga can never be wiped out.

While speaking at Kango Ka Jaramogi during Kalonzo’s visit to pay tribute to his late political friend on Thursday, November 6, 2025, where he arrived with a huge entourage, she acknowledged the long-standing friendship between the two allies.

She went on to say that only those who truly loved the late Raila are the ones who have shown up during his death to mourn, which is why, according to Ida Odinga, that was evident in Kalonzo coming with a huge entourage led by him and two governors from his backyard to mourn with the family of the late ODM leader.

She further stated that, although she is not a politician like her husband was, one thing she was sure of is that the two leaders enjoyed a cordial relationship for many years, a friendship never to be wiped out, even in Odinga’s death.

“I am not a politician, so don’t expect me to bring in any politics, but from what I know, Kalonzo was a friend of Baba for many years, and their friendship can never be erased,” Ida stated.

Kalonzo’s entry style into Opoda Farm and Kango Ka Jaramogi indeed aligns with Ida Odinga’s view of the bond the two held. He stormed Opoda Farm, bringing it to a standstill.

His entry was unmatched, with no leader before him having arrived in such a manner, donned in military fatigue similar to what he and Raila once wore during their protest days, complete with a military cap.

Kalonzo defended the move, saying he had come to mourn “the father of protests”, with whom he had been in the trenches fighting for good governance struggles that almost cost their lives on several occasions.

The crowd was uncontrollable as it stormed Opoda Farm, causing a moment of confusion as organisers struggled to contain the rowdy group that had accompanied Kalonzo.

He recalled how, in 2023, Raila almost lost his life after 10 bullets were fired at his vehicle; if not for it being armoured, according to Kalonzo, the late leader could have died.

He went on to defend Raila from the names he was labelled with while fighting for a good cause, saying his opponents called him ‘mganga’ and ‘mchawi’, which Kalonzo rebuked, insisting such labels should never be associated with the Odinga family.
